iGEM Judging Handbook 2023

iGEM Competition 2023 においては、この iGEM Judging Handbook 2023 が、採点時における絶対の基準である。 隅々まで読むことをおすすめしたい。また、例年、年度途中に発表されるので、来年度のチームにも参考になるだろう。

審査員も評価するのは大変である。ガイドラインに書いてあるからというように、言い逃れさせてあげよう。 ここに書かれていることに沿ってやると、自然と評価は高くなるだろう。

また、Judge は無償のボランティアでやっている (確か交通費もでない)。また、日本から Judge に参加している人は、ほぼいない。 自分たちの結果に納得のいかないこともあるだろうが、Judge に対して、不満をぶつけるのはやめよう。 Judge とは、自分たちのプロジェクトを良い形で送り出せるようにするために、協力するパートナーであると考え、良い関係を築けるように心がけよう。

このような審査は、明確に点数の形でチームに返される。 (基本的にはチームにのみ返信される。)

いくつかの公開してくれているチームがあるため、どのような評価になっているかについて、確認してみよう。

審査の流れ

それでは、iGEM Judging Handbook 2023 について確認していく。まずは、審査の流れについてである。各チームに審査員が割り当てられる。

• step 0 : 数週間前に Judge にチームが割り振られる (各チーム専門が異なる 6 人)

• step 1 : (before Jamboree) (Judging form を最初に見る)→promotion video→wiki→presentation video をみて各チームのプロジェクトとを把握。(P80, 88)

• step2 : (before Jamboree) この段階で質問を考えたり、あらかじめの評価を記載する。プロジェクトと特別賞のセクション (それぞれ独立) に記載される。プロジェクト ( + presentation + wiki )の評価は、Finalist の比較に用いられる。

• step3 : (before Jamboree) メダルの評価をする (P37)

• step4 : Jamboree の Judge session に参加する。5 分の発表 →20 分の QA。最終的な投票を完成させる。

• step5 : フィードバックを作成 (P12)

• step6 : 集められた投票から Finalist を決定する。Project, Presentation, and Wiki categories のスコアの平均が高いチームが選出される。(P23)

• step7 : Finalist の発表を聞いて、Judge 全体が投票し、最終評価になる。(このとき、Finalist は前日夜に発表されるので、Judge の大半は内容を知らずにプレゼンだけ見て評価する。2023 年は、公平を喫すためには、Judge は別室でビデオプレゼンを見て投票する。なので、最後のステージでのプレゼンは、完全にショーである。)

Gold Medal 要件に関連する Judge が割り当てられる可能性が高い。Project と Judgeの親和性をよく考えて、Gold Medal 要件を選択しよう。

Project の評価だけじゃない。Wikiと Presentation の評価も重要！

基本的にプロジェクトの評価は、決められた URL のページに対して行う。他のリンクは補助であり、適切なページが存在しない場合、評価には値しない。 (P43, 46)

Medal要件以外のページは、読まれないこと可能性があることを理解しよう

Project の審査項目 (P27)

• 1. How impressive is this project?
• 2. Did the project work or is it likely to work?
• 3. Is the project likely to have an impact?
• 4. How well were engineering principles used (e.g., designbuild-test cycle, use of standards, modularity, etc.)?
• 5. How thoughtful and thorough was the team’s consideration of human practices?
• 6. How much of the work did the team do themselves and how much was done by others?
• 7. Did the team design a project based on synthetic biology and standard components (BioBricks, software, etc.)?
• 8. Are the project components well documented on the team’s wiki/Registry pages (parts should be documented in the Registry)?
• 9. How competent were the team members at answering questions during the judging session?

Presentation に関する 4 つの評価項目 (P80)

• 1. How well did the team communicate their project goals, design, and results with convincing evidence?
• 2. Does the visual design of the presentation support the communication of the technical content (project design,results and data analysis, and conclusions)?
• 3. Did you find the presentation engaging?
• 4. Were images, prior work, background information, and supporting data acknowledged appropriately?

WIki に関する 5 つの評価項目 (P88)

• 1. How well does the wiki communicate the team’s project and their goals?
• 2. Did the team clearly document their project and support their results with convincing experimental evidence?
• 3. Does the design of the wiki support visitors in finding and understanding the content?
• 4. Will the wiki be a compelling record of the team’s project for future teams?
• 5. Is the content (including text, images, and prior work from iGEM teams and other research groups) on the wiki properly referenced and cited?

その他

Medai は (ある程度) 雰囲気で評価 (なはず) (P38 ~)

Special Award は、参考例が数多く存在するので、それに沿った表現をするのが無難 (P44 ~)

iGEM 2023より、Gold Medal要件について、選択制になった。そのことにより、Special Awardに選ばれる数も、Gold Medal要件で選択したもの ( + Wiki / Presentation ) だけとなった。 各チームの戦略に合わせて、注意深く選択してほしい。
